Our team here at HALO Salon & Spa wants to help you take the best possible care of your skin. We also understand that there is a lot of information available about proper skin care, and not all of it is accurate. In this article, we’ll go over three of the most common myths about skin care that we have encountered and replace them with accurate information so that you can make more informed choices when it comes to your skin.
- MYTH: Acne is caused by poor hygiene. One common myth surrounding skin care is that not washing your face will cause you to develop acne. In reality, acne is caused by a variety of factors, with the most prominent ones being oil production, bacteria, inflammation, hormones, and stress. While not washing your face won’t help matters, poor hygiene is not the cause of acne.
- MYTH: Spray tans protect you from sunburn. Another myth that we hear a lot in regard to skin care is that getting a spray tan is an effective way to protect yourself from sunburns. This is not true at all–all a spray tan does is change the color of your skin, and it does not offer any kind of UV protection. While we’re on the topic, getting a natural “base tan” won’t protect your skin either.
- MYTH: You only need sunscreen in the summer. A third skin care myth is that you only need to wear sunscreen during the summer. In reality, you should wear sunscreen in all seasons, including the fall and winter. While the UV rays that damage the skin are weaker in the winter, they are always present, which means that you should always use UV protection.
